    • Incredible vehicle

After a ton of research on many mid size SUVs, I went on test drives. After driving the 2021 Sorento SX Prestige, the choice was simple. This SUV has safety, comfort, performance, and convience features of vehicles costing many thousands more. The ride quality is outstanding and a pleasure to drive. The power from the turbo charged engine will totally surprise you. KIA is now a manufacturer of quality and value which others better pay attention to. Namely Toyota, Honda and any domestic vehicle on the road today. I will gladly compare my Sorento to ANY vehicle. KIA nailed it. Please, if you are in the market for a mid size SUV, just head to a KIA dealership and check out this amazing vehicle.

I have been a recent Honda/Audi customer for my last few vehicles. I have tended to hold the Hondas for a long time and pass them down to family members, while I've sold the Audis after three years. I value quality and engineering above all, so this is my first experience with a Kia. The Good Stuff The powertrain in this Sorento Hybrid is just excellent; I generally leave it in "eco" mode and it drives like it has a normal or turbo 4 cylinder with much larger displacement. Torque off the line is great with the EV boost, and I love how they mated the EV to the ICE *before* the transmission. Gives it a very normal feel shifting through the gears. The economy is outstanding, typically seeing high 30's in mixed use. It really does not feel like you have a 1.6L hamster-cage ICE motor under the hood. Visibility and seating is great. Roomy and comfortable. It's equally at ease running around town or on the interstate. Handling is somewhat "shopping-cart" like as it's a tall vehicle, but nothing that the chassis does not signal well in advance. Really nice, balanced driving experience. The "Not As Good" Stuff Again, I'm coming from Honda who to me offers a gold-standard in cabin experience with instrumentation and interior comfort. Moving to a Kia takes some getting used to. I thought I would be fine with the "dial-a-gear" gear shift but I really don't care for it. Many times I have been too quick for it, thinking that I'd already shifted but finding myself in park. Or actually rotating it the wrong way when doing a three-point turn. You want this to be an UNCONSCIOUS move that the driver does not have to think about, but unfortunately this is not the case. I really do have to slow down, look at the gear knob, and very patiently and purposefully rotate it in the desired direction. I've been driving for forty years without screwing up gear changes and this interface has forced me to become much more deliberate because the cost of screwing up a three-point turn shift is an insurance deductible. I would prefer pushbutton gear select or just the old "stalk" to slam around. Not a fan of the gear shift dial here. The media center is not intuitive to master. You can actually play the radio at the same time you're on Apple carplay/Android Auto but even the dealer doesn't know how to make this work. I had to dedicate serious playtime to understanding this. The various information menus available through the main display and the small driver display are available through various menu/button selections but it's pretty clear to see that they did not really idiot-test these features. Takes some seriously dedicated time to learning how to navigate all of the menus and features. For example, this car has TPMS but I challenge anyone to figure out how to pull up that display. This is really a nit-pick but I don't care for the steering wheel buttons/controls. They are small toggle-buttons that work fine, I just prefer the Honda way of adding very tactile solid buttons that work well with fingers. BOTTOM LINE My first Kia, mechanically and functionally excellent, with some interior quirks that will bug you until you dedicate time to figuring them out.
    • Best vehicle I have ever driven!

We have a 2013 SUV, same length but less internal space than the Sorento. Could not believe the quiet ride of the Sorento. Our first test drive was in a rain storm but barely heard the noise outside. On a recent trip to Shenandoah valley, I saw 30+ mpg at 70mph on rt. 81 in VA. Plenty of power to climb the hills and mountain roads of VA. Especially climbing to a winery 1700 ft up a stone road was very easy. I did lock the hubs, a very thoughtful option. We have had many strangers stop to tell us how good the saphire blue with black wheels look.
